English Version
Warmest greetings from Dulwich International High School Suzhou. My name's Richard Nunns, and I'm one of the deputy directors here. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Dulwich International High School Suzhou, the second high school in the EIM, Education in Motion Group. Whilst we cannot meet in person, I'm really grateful for this opportunity to share with you a little of what we're celebrating in our 10th year.
We've come a long way since 2012 when we started as an IGCSE and A-Level program in rented facilities on the campus of Suzhou High School with just over 300 students. We've since moved to new purpose-built premises and expanded twice. Currently, we have over 100 academic colleagues who are all dedicated to supporting our 750 day and boarding students to "grow in Dulwich and thrive in life".
Since 2019, we've launched our innovative liberal arts curriculum, whilst our studio approach leads the way in China in the visual arts domain. This year, we are particularly proud that as a result of the joint efforts of students, teachers, and families, we have been recognized for our success in preparing students to thrive in world-ranking universities. In our first year of joining the rankings, KingLead has recognized us as being 1st in Jiangsu and 10th in China out of over 1,400 schools in the China International School Competitiveness Ranking with the direction of enrollment to U.S. universities.
How do we do this? To me, it's focusing on three areas, skills, academics, and co-curriculas. To many schools, academics is where their school starts, but to us, it's actually the skills. Can students communicate? How do we increase their confidence? How do we increase their academic skills such as note-taking and collaboration with others? This is embedded in our curriculum and purposefully taught.
In academics, whilst the British A-Levels and IGCSEs form the core of our curriculum, about 1/3 of students' time is spent on 'Dulwich Difference' activities, which are really adding value. These include our compulsory drama and life skills courses, and also our innovative liberal arts, SE21 technology, and digital skills curricula. We guide students to choose a personalized pathway, taking into account their current level of readiness, where they want to be, and their own interests.
In the co-curricula space, we provide over 80 activities for our students that help them to find and develop their passions. I'm particularly excited with our genetic biology lab where teams of students can get involved with manipulating DNA. In the international iGEM competition, our school was one of only two finalists in the high school division.
Through the combination of skills, academics, and co-curricula, we prepare students so not only do they get accepted by their best-fit universities, but also they have the skills and attitudes, so they really thrive, enjoying their time, both at high school and at university, and equipped to make a positive difference to the world.
I look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful campus, so you can see the school for yourself.
