FIT offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Accessories Design. See eligibility requirements before you apply.

Associate in Applied Science Degree

Students who successfully complete the Accessories Design AAS degree will be able to:

demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze, and elect appropriate materials for fabricating accessories;

identify the anatomy of the foot and hand and apply ergonomics to the design of handbags and footwear;

illustrate technical specification for handbags, footwear, and belts;construct innovative designs in handbags, footwear, and belts from concept to finished sample;

develop critical thinking skills through research projects, design exploration, and presentations; andillustrate total design concepts from ideation to finished rendering, by hand and by computer.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree

Students who successfully complete the Accessories Design BFA degree will be able to:

research, analyze, and creatively illustrate the historical relevance of fashion evolution, innovation, and trends;design and create accessories that address a need in the current market using learned assembly techniques, inventive materials, and trend research;develop an accessories business plan and deliver a coherent, articulate oral presentation;identify technology and apply, either digitally or manually, to the creation of fashion, theatrical, and athletic accessories; and prepare, organize, and present a professional-level portfolio for internship and employment opportunities.

If you are a high school student

You may not apply directly to the bachelor's degree program. High school students should apply to FIT's two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program in Accessories Design and after completing that degree apply to the two-year bachelor's program.Applicants to this program are expected to provide a competitive portfolio.

If you have credits or a degree from another college

You may apply to the two-year Accessories Design BFA program as a transfer student if you meet one of the following criteria by the time you enroll at FIT:you will have an associates or bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a program that is equivalent to the FIT Accessories Design AAS program.you will have earned at least 60 credits toward a bachelor's degree in an equivalent program at an accredited Most transfer students are eligible for the one-year AAS program.You must also complete LD 133 (Footwear Design/Construction 1) and LD 143 (Handbag Design/Construction 1) before beginning the BFA program, and LD 134 (Footwear Design/Construction 2) and LD 144 (Handbag Design/Construction 2) before the start of the seventh semester of the BFA program.Applicants to this program are expected to provide a competitive portfolio. Please note that FIT AAS students receive priority admissions consideration.
