The University offers postgraduate programs in five Schools: Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science, and the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School. In addition, the Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO) offers programs that bring together two or more different fields of study.

Two types of research postgraduate programs are offered :

1.at doctoral level: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs

2.at master?s level: Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programs

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

1.PhD programs require a combination of coursework and independent research, with major emphasis placed on research.

2.Normal Duration of Study

Full-time :3 years if a relevant master's degree is earned prior to entering the PhD program;

4 years with a first degree

Part-time :8 years

Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

1.MPhil programs are normally several terms in duration and require a combination of coursework and independent research.

2.Normal Duration of Study

Full-time :2 years

Part-time :4 years
