Heriot-Watt University is offering a brand new Scholarship Programme for 2017/18 entry for applicants to Postgraduate Taught Masters degree programmes.

Successful Scholarships will benefit from a fee reduction in one of three categories:

For students on a one-year full-time course the value of the Scholarship is 20% of the tuition-fee level, or 10% for the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences. For part-time or other modes of study the value is pro-rata to the above level, up to a maximum of 20% of a one-year fee.

The Scheme, applicable to many Postgraduate taught courses across the University, is open to all Heriot-Watt Alumni who have previously been registered for one year or more on a Heriot-Watt degree course. Alumni applicants should contact the relevant School or Postgraduate Institute to confirm if the proposed course of study is eligible for Scholarship, or for further information.

Exclusions are:

EBS courses

IPE courses (though they may offer a Scholarship for students studying in Orkney)

MSc Actuarial Science

Students studying on a course offered jointly with another university (Erasmus Mundus courses and several courses joint with Scottish Universities)

Students studying with a learning partner

As part of an ambitious expansion programme to intensify further our world-leading research programmes, Heriot-Watt University has created a fourth tranche of James Watt Scholarships. In Engineering and Physical Sciences, these studentships are fully funded for 36 months, with an annual tax-exempt maintenance of ?15,000 annual stipend plus fees (total value ?l60,000 for UK/EU students, ?93,000 for overseas students).

Music Scholarships

Details

Heriot-Watt University awards many music scholarships each year in the form of free music tuition for talented singers and instrumentalists, up to a value of ?400 per year. These scholarships are generously supported by the Alumni Fund.

In addition, the Archer Music Scholarships - in memory of the late Professor John Archer, former Principal of Heriot-Watt University - offer places each year on the Heriot-Watt residential music course for students, and one scholarship for a talented musician to receive music tuition up to a value of ?500.

The following criteria are taken into consideration:

musical ability and potential, proof of exam results and membership of orchestras or choirs

a reference from your last vocal or instrumental teacher

in the case of the Archer Music Scholarships, a personal statement is also required

auditions will be held during Semester 1.

All music scholars including the Archer Music Scholars will be expected to be members of the orchestra or choir, and attend all rehearsals and concerts. If eligible, students may apply for an academic scholarship in addition to a music scholarship.

The duration of the scholarship award is one year with the probability of an annual extension for the duration of the student's period of study at the University. All scholars will be assessed on a continuous basis.
